Import and consumption of diesel oil decreased

13 November 2009

The retail sales of gasoline on the home market over January-September 2009 rose by 5.7% compared with the corresponding period last year, to 149,800 tonnes, while of liquified petroleum gas – by 10.1% to 40,000 tonnes. The sales of diesel oil fell by 14.1% to 134,400 tonnes, says a report by the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE).

In the nine months to September, the import of gasoline increased by 3.4% compared with January-September last year to 160,100 tonnes. The import of diesel oil decreased by 15.8% to 212,700 tonnes, while of liquified petroleum gas – by 0.9% to 43,400 tonnes. The ANRE says the import and consumption of diesel oil decreased following a lower demand for this fuel, mainly in the transport sector, and the donation of diesel oil by Russia to Moldova.

The average import price of gasoline in the period fell by 40.9% to US$586.2 per tonne, of diesel oil – by 50.3% to US$540 per tonne, while of liquified petroleum gas – by 48.2% to US$425 per tonne. The average retail price of gasoline, VAT included, dropped by 26.6% to 9.78 lei a liter, of diesel oil – by 31.9% to 9.4 lei a liter, while of liquified petroleum gas – by 34.6% to 4.58 lei a liter. The largest volumes of gasoline and diesel oil over the first nine months of this year were imported by LUKoil Moldova, Petrom Moldova and Tirex Petrol. The three companies accounted together for 65.7% of the imports of gasoline and for 69% of the imports of diesel oil. Dominic, LUKoil Moldova and Tirex Petrol imported 62.9% of the liquified petroleum gas used in Moldova.
