Moldova in the nine months to September exported goods to the value of US$896.4 million, a decrease of 25% compared with the corresponding period last year.
Imports fell by 37.8% to US$ 2.282,8 billion, reports the National Bureau of Statistics. The Bureau says that the exports to the European Union totaled US$477.9 million, down 23.4% compared with January-September last year. They made up 53.3% of the total exports.
Imports from the EU came to US$997.6 million, constituting 43.7% of the total imports. The discrepancy in the value of exports and imports over January-September this year led to the creation of a trade deficit of US$1.386,4 billion, by 44.0% lower compared with January-September 2008. The balance-of-trade deficit with the EU member states was US$519.7 million, as against US$997.2 million in the same period last year, while with the CIS countries – US$484.0 million, as opposed to US$817.7 million in January-September 2008.
