The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) plans to finance the construction of four natural gas storing facilities in Europe's south-east.
Reuters quotes a top EBRD official as saying that the bank plans to finance these projects in Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania and Moldova. The EBRD has already provided a 200 million euro loan to Hungarian MOL to finance a gas storage facility and is ready to throw "substantial" financing behind the Nabucco gas pipeline. Natural gas from Central Asia will be shipped through this pipe to European countries, thus avoiding Russia's territory.
The storage facility in Hungary will be built at the borders with Bosnia, Serbia and Croatia in order to supply gas to those countries in case of need.
